The Opportunity
Puro Associates are working with Brunskill, a boutique law firm based in the heart of Spinningfields, Manchester, who are looking to appoint a qualified Solicitor with solid experience in actions against the police and claims against public authorities.

This is a particularly interesting opportunity for a solicitor who wants to work on high-quality, complex cases, many of which have significant value and media profiles, while also taking on a genuine supervisory and management role within the firm.

The role is part-time, with scope for additional hours as the firm's caseload continues to develop.

The Role
You will work across the firm's developing civil liberties and public law practice, alongside its established work in crime, fraud, professional discipline, regulatory matters, coroner's inquests and public inquiries.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a caseload from initial instruction through to conclusion.
  • Handling investigatory and pre-claim work.
  • Running actions against the police and claims against public authorities.
  • Obtaining and working with expert evidence.
  • Drafting letters of claim, pleadings and other legal documentation.
  • Conducting settlement negotiations.
  • Progressing matters through litigation where appropriate.
  • Acting as the firm's Legal Aid Agency supervisor.
  • Supervising and supporting other members of staff, depending on experience.
  • Contributing to the continued development of the firm's civil liberties and public authority work.

About YouThe successful candidate will be a qualified Solicitor with solid experience in:

  • Actions against the police.
  • Claims against public authorities.
  • Running matters from inception through to conclusion.
  • Litigation and pre-action work.
  • Working with expert evidence and drafting pleadings.
  • Ideally, Legal Aid work and supervision.

You will need to either already meet the LAA supervisor requirements or be capable of meeting them in the near future.

Strong communication, management and supervisory skills are essential, alongside the ability to work confidently on complex and sensitive matters.
