Junior Accountant / Accounts & Tax Assistant
Location: Newcastle
Salary: £25,000 - £30,000
We are currently recruiting for a Junior Accountant / Accounts & Tax Assistant to join a well-established and growing independent firm of accountants based in Newcastle. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has begun their career in practice and is looking to gain hands-on experience within a supportive, professional, and friendly environment.
The firm works with a varied portfolio of clients, including owner-managed businesses, SMEs, and individuals, and is committed to developing its people through structured training and ongoing support.
The RoleAs a Junior Accountant, you will support senior accountants and partners with day-to-day accounts and tax work while building strong technical foundations. This role offers broad exposure to practice work and is ideal for someone keen to progress their career within accountancy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with the preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Completing smaller personal and business tax returns
- Supporting analysis work, bookkeeping, and reconciliations
- Maintaining accurate client records and working papers
- Working closely with senior team members to develop technical and professional skills
- Assisting with ad hoc duties as required across the practice
The Ideal Candidate:
- Some experience within an accountancy practice
- Studying towards, or keen to study towards, a professional qualification (AAT / ACA / ACCA)
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Good communication and organisational skills
- A positive, proactive attitude and a genuine interest in accountancy
