About Us
We are a warm, supportive, family-run accountancy practice based in York. As our client base continues to grow, we are looking for a dedicated Bookkeeper to join our close-knit team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a friendly environment and is looking to develop their career within practice.
The Role
You will be responsible for delivering accurate bookkeeping and payroll services for a range of clients. This hands-on role is office-based initially, with flexible working hours available. For the right person, hybrid working may be considered after the initial settling-in period.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing day-to-day bookkeeping for multiple clients
- Processing payroll on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis
- Preparing VAT returns and assisting with management accounts
- Reconciling accounts, maintaining ledgers, and handling queries
- Supporting year-end preparation for clients
- Communicating with clients to gather information and provide updates
- Ensuring compliance with accounting and payroll regulations
- Assisting the wider team with ad-hoc finance tasks as required
About You
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working within an accountancy practice is essential
- Strong bookkeeping and payroll knowledge
- Confident using accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Organised, approachable, and proactive
Qualifications
- Part-qualified candidates (AAT/ACCA) are welcome
