Senior Accountant
Gateshead | Full-time | Permanent
Salary: £38,000 – £42,000
We are working with a well-established and growing accountancy firm based in Gateshead, currently seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and technically strong accountant who enjoys managing client relationships, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to the success of a forward-thinking practice.
The Role
As Senior Accountant, you will take responsibility for a portfolio of clients while supporting the wider team and helping to drive high standards across the firm. You will act as a trusted adviser to clients, ensuring compliance and providing commercially focused advice.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a varied portfolio of clients, including sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts in line with UK accounting standards
- Preparing and reviewing corporation tax, personal tax, and partnership tax returns
- Overseeing bookkeeping and VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients and building strong, long-term relationships
- Providing proactive advice on tax planning, business performance, and growth
- Reviewing work prepared by junior team members and providing mentoring and support
- Managing workflows and ensuring deadlines are met
- Liaising with HMRC and other third parties as required
- Supporting partners with ad-hoc projects and practice initiatives
About You
- ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
- Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation and UK taxation
- Confident communicator with a client-focused mindset
- Well organised with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Keen to support and develop junior colleagues
