Puro Associates are currently working with a leading national and well-established specialist law firm that is looking to appoint an experienced Criminal Defence Solicitor to join its growing team in Nottingham.

The Role
You will manage a varied caseload of private criminal defence matters, advising and representing clients throughout the investigation and prosecution process. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing your own caseload of criminal defence matters from initial instruction through to conclusion
  • Advising and representing privately funded clients across a broad range of criminal matters
  • Attending police stations and courts as required
  • Preparing cases thoroughly and providing clear, practical advice to clients
  • Conducting negotiations and advocacy where appropriate
  • Dealing with complex and sensitive cases, including serious and financial crime matters
  • Advising clients in relation to investigations, prosecutions and associated proceedings
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure a high-quality and consistent service
  • Maintaining accurate case records and complying with relevant professional and regulatory requirements
  • Contributing to the continued development of the criminal defence offering

The role involves working with clients nationally, so travel to police stations and courts will be required.

About You

  • 5+ years PQE with a current practising certificate
  • Proven experience acting for clients in criminal law cases
  • Strong experience within criminal defence
  • Experience managing a caseload independently
  • Excellent client care and communication skills
  • Strong advocacy, negotiation and case management abilities
  • The ability to deal confidently with complex and sensitive matters
  • A commercially aware and professional approach
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A genuine passion for criminal law and achieving the best possible outcomes for clients

Experience of privately funded criminal work would be particularly advantageous. Legal Aid experience will also be considered.
