Duty Solicitor - Criminal Law
Location: Leicester
Salary: £35,000 – £60,000 DOE
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

Puro Associates are working with an award-winning national firm looking to appoint a Duty Solicitor to join their Criminal Law team in Leicester. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Criminal Solicitor to play a key role in the development of a growing local presence, with genuine scope to take ownership, develop professionally and progress flexibly within the business.

The successful candidate will ideally have an established reputation within the local market, although candidates who are commercially minded and keen to develop their own profile and client base will also be considered.
There is also the opportunity to develop further experience across Crown Court litigation and privately funded Magistrates' Court work, alongside access to ongoing training and career development.
 
The Role

  • Advising and representing clients in relation to criminal allegations and proceedings
  • Managing your own caseload from the police station through to trial where appropriate
  • Attending police stations to advise and represent clients
  • Preparing applications, statements, correspondence and other legal documentation
  • Preparing client proofs of evidence and responding to prosecution evidence
  • Representing clients in Magistrates' and Crown Courts
  • Instructing counsel and specialist advocates where appropriate
  • Attending court hearings across Leicester and the surrounding area
  • Participating in the out-of-hours Police Station/Duty Solicitor rota
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider team
  • Supervising and delegating work to junior fee earners and support staff where appropriate
  • Contributing to the development, profile and growth of the local office

 
About You
The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold Duty Solicitor status
  • Hold the relevant Police Station Accreditation
  • Have experience within Criminal Law
  • Be confident handling a busy and varied caseload
  • Have excellent client care and communication skills
  • Be commercially aware, proactive and motivated to develop new business opportunities
  • Have strong advocacy and negotiation skills
  • Be organised, resilient and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Be confident developing relationships with clients, counsel, court staff and other third parties
  • Have excellent attention to detail and time-management skills
  • Be comfortable working independently while also contributing positively to a wider team
  • Have previous supervisory/management experience or be keen to develop into a leadership position
