Head of Employment – Lead a Thriving Employment Law Team
Location: Chelmsford or Leigh-on-Sea
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–5.30pm
Salary: Circa £50,000 - £80,000 based on experience
An outstanding opportunity has arisen at a reputable, modern law firm for an experienced Head of Employment to take the reins of a well-established and growing employment team. This position is ideal for a dynamic and commercially astute solicitor looking to shape and lead a successful department.
Working closely with senior leadership, the Head of Employment will oversee the delivery of first-class legal services to both individuals and businesses. The successful candidate will bring both strategic oversight and hands-on legal expertise to a team committed to excellence.
Key Responsibilities for the Head of Employment:
- Leading and managing a busy and growing employment law team
- Providing expert legal advice on a wide range of employment issues, from contentious matters to HR compliance
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and professional referrers
- Acting as a trusted advisor to individuals and SMEs, offering commercial, solutions-driven advice
- Representing clients in complex disputes, negotiations, and employment tribunal matters
- Collaborating with senior stakeholders to develop new business opportunities and support strategic growth
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 5 years' PQE in Employment Law
- Proven leadership capabilities with experience in managing a team
- Strong litigator and advocate with excellent technical knowledge
- Commercially minded with a proactive and client-focused approach
- Clear communicator who thrives in a supportive, performance-driven environment
