About the Role
We are seeking an organised, proactive Legal Cashier to join a well established Manchester office. This is a key position within the firm, providing an efficient and compliant cashiering function along with valuable support across IT, HR administration and facilities. You’ll work closely with the Practice Director to ensure smooth financial operations and adherence to all regulatory requirements, including the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Transactions & Cashiering
- Efficient handling and processing of all incoming monies, including cash, alongside daily banking duties.
- Timely production of BACS payments, petty cash management and reconciliation.
- Preparation and accurate input of financial data into the accounting system, including cash, bank transactions and bills.
- Monthly reconciliation of office and client bank accounts, as well as the LAA control account, in line with Solicitors Accounts Rules.
- Administration of the purchase ledger, including statement reconciliation, supplier management and payment scheduling.
Banking, Reporting & Compliance
- Daily monitoring of bank balances using online banking systems and reporting any issues to the Practice Director.
- Month-end coordination and production of required audit reports.
- Administration, posting and payment of monthly expense claims.
- Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns.
- Completion of monthly and year-end payroll.
- Assistance with billing processes when needed.
- Liaison with external accountants at year-end to provide required information and reports.
IT & Internal Support
- Once trained, deliver 1st-line IT support and troubleshooting for all staff.
- Assist with implementation of IT strategy and coordinate technology installations with external IT support providers.
Work Planning & Organisation
This role requires excellent time management, as many tasks must be completed at set times daily, weekly or monthly. You will be responsible for ensuring all deadlines are met, working effectively with colleagues and external partners to secure required information in a timely manner.
Decision-Making & Knowledge
The ideal candidate will maintain strong working knowledge of all accounts and administrative functions, including current Solicitors Accounts Rules. You should be able to identify when matters require escalation to the Practice Director and act promptly.
About You
- Experience in a Legal Cashier role (preferred) or strong accounts experience within a regulated environment
- Understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules
- Strong organisational and numerical skills
- Good IT literacy and willingness to develop 1st-line support capability
- Proactive, accurate, and reliable with excellent attention to detail
- Able to work independently and meet strict deadlines
