Puro Associates are delighted to be working with a well-established and highly regarded independent accountancy practice in Stockton-on-Tees who are looking to appoint an experienced Payroll Administrator to join their team on a part-time basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who is looking for part-time hours and enjoys working within an accountancy practice environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing payrolls for a portfolio of clients, ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time while providing a high level of service.
The firm is particularly interested in candidates with a solid background in accountancy practice, rather than someone whose experience has been solely within an in-house payroll environment.
Sage Payroll experience would be preferred but is not essential.

The Role
As a Part-Time Payroll Administrator, you'll be responsible for supporting the payroll function and ensuring clients receive an accurate and efficient service.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Processing monthly and weekly payrolls for a portfolio of clients
  • Calculating wages, overtime, holiday pay and other payroll adjustments
  • Processing starters, leavers and changes to employee details
  • Managing PAYE, National Insurance and statutory deductions
  • Processing statutory payments including SSP and SMP
  • Preparing and submitting RTI returns to HMRC
  • Producing payroll reports and payslips
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date payroll records
  • Responding to payroll queries from clients and employees
  • Ensuring payroll deadlines are consistently met
  • Keeping up to date with changes to payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
  • Providing general payroll support to the wider practice team

About You
We're looking for an experienced payroll professional who is confident managing payroll responsibilities independently and ideally has previous experience within an accountancy practice.
You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
  • Solid experience processing payroll from start to finish
  • Experience managing payroll for multiple clients would be highly advantageous
  • Good knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance and RTI
  • Experience with statutory payments and payroll legislation
  • Sage Payroll experience would be preferred but is not essential
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills
  • Good communication and client relationship skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage multiple payroll deadlines
  • A professional and proactive approach

We're particularly interested in candidates who have a strong practice background, although the firm is open to considering candidates with different levels of payroll experience where they have the right technical knowledge and attitude.
This role would suit an experienced payroll professional looking for part-time hours who enjoys working with a variety of clients and wants to be part of a supportive accountancy practice.
If you're an experienced payroll professional looking for a flexible, part-time opportunity within practice, we'd love to hear from you.
